WINNIE'SLeave your pride uptown &your discretion at the door. Winnies has a way of pulling the most hardcore Asian mic-masters together with downtown hip kids for a properly awkward singing extravaganza. Its karaoke like youve never known it. Under a low ceiling of cheesy (or sexy?) red lamps and amidst a crowd of instant best friends. Fear not an all-Gaga song list because Winnies has a book of classics too. Fire up some Sinatra standards with your mom, or bookend yourself with two friends for a rendition of Wilson Phillips Hold On. Plus, at only a buck a song, you can afford more than 15 seconds of fame. Theres neither judgement nor pride at Winnies. Of course the over-sized red pleather booths offer some shelter for the shy, and the powerfully mixed drinks will make you feel more at ease than that rendition of Islands in the Stream. In fact, their Hawaiian Punch has been providing pep talks to Winnies-goers for many a year. Still, even your staunchest anti-karaoke cohort will fold once theyre lured into this Chinatown song-den. With wood-paneled walls, squeaky seats, the occasional Winnie sighting and a crowd that youll want to stick with til the after-after party, Winnies just might be the friendly little love pat you needed to dial up some Holy Diver by Dio. Go. Sing. Make us proud!
